![]() The first and second act have different lyrics to explain the different situations the princes have found themselves in.Īnother example is from the Les Miserables song Do You Hear The People Sing. Its use is widespread. Reprising numbers and changing the lyrics is very common musical practice. ![]() (I already have a poster hanging on my wall). And believe me, I'm the biggest fan of this movie. This is subtle, but I wouldn't call it brilliant. Sort of a loose connection but I do really like the message there. Tangentially, this kind of reminds me of this comic strip "Follow Your Dreams" by Shonda Rhimes ( ). Maybe that was obvious to people during the film but it took me a few soundtrack listens to really make those connections myself. Mia's roommates are playing the Hollywood politics game, placing all of their hope in some external force "discovering" them and catapulting them to stardom.Ĭontrast that to Mia's path, where she pours herself into her play, which she believes to be an utter failure, only to discover her play was actually the key to her future success. Someone in the crowd could take you where you want to go The one to finally lift you off the ground Someone in the crowd could be the one you need to know You make the right impression then everybody knows your name This is the real audition, oh God help us all ![]() Tonight we're on a mission, tonight's the casting call My last girl left me to pursue her own interests earlier this year, so naturally I made the movie about us Lol.Įither way I love how everyone can watch the same movie or painting or listen to the same song and take what they want from it!Ī song I've really come to love due is "Someone in the Crowd" because it really puts Mia and her roommates into perspective. (Only she knew about that seat ((maybe I'm reaching)) In the flashback, Sebastian is in that seat. Also, during her one woman show, there's a reserved sign on the third seat from the left. The camera is even showing him play it from her POV. If you notice, the flash back starts when Sebastian plays the song that Mia watched him play at jk Simmons club. Where she pursued her dreams and Sebastian tagged along and supported her, despite what his dreams were. ![]() So when epilogue came on, I assumed that those visuals were hers and what I took from it was that that's the way she wished it would have gone down. When I saw it I took it as if the movie was being told from Mia's perspective with Sebastian as a side character. I really like your interpretation though, and I see a lot of merit in it because of the notes the song ends on. It's really heartbreaking to me and I have cried both times I watched it, that whole sequences cuts to the core of me. He's kept as much of her around as he could and he's telling her that he's settling for Jazz when what he came to truly love was her, what he should have been more passionate about was her and he would have preferred that to the club. Instead it's in a solid location like she suggested and it uses her name and logo she created. It isn't in the Van Beek, it isn't called Chicken on a Stick. The club was his original dream, but Mia became his new dream and he lost it. This, he realizes during the song, would have been what he really wanted. ![]() He tells her about their relationship, about all the moves he wishes he'd made, and how he realizes that if he'd just made one or two tiny little different decisions they would have been in a great place when she nailed that interview and he would have followed her to Paris, eventually coming with her to someone else's Jazz club instead of her walking into his. Right away you can tell part of what he's going to say, and the visuals confirm it. He can't talk to her, but he has so much he needs to say. Fast forward to Mia and her husband entering the club. Early in the film he talks about how music was a way for people who couldn't communicate to talk to each other without words, to say what needed to be said, and it was about compromise and conflict and it was exciting. I see it more as a confession by Sebastian. ![]()
